After the Port of Itajaí went through a troubled time in its administration following the departure of APM Terminals and nearly two years inactive, today JBS takes over the operation of the port as a result of the purchase of 70% of Mada Araújo, the company that won the temporary bid for two years.

The visit

During the technical visit, consisting of the director of Fast Shipping, Thiago Souza and including Andressa Slama, Acácio Neves, Matheus Mendonça, Fernando Liberato, and Vinicius Baixo, the team had the opportunity to ensure the company's commitment to providing a customer-focused service, where they are currently in the final stages of hiring, resulting in a workforce larger than that of the former tenant APM Terminals.

Agendas

In the meeting topics such as movement, negotiations with carriers, and the possibilities of receiving new maritime lines were discussed, where there was an expression of expectation to operate 5 to 7 services per week.

The visit was also a step to strengthen partnerships and storage negotiations “Fast always seeks to help its clients and their operations, so having a fair negotiation and contributing to reduce our clients' operating costs is our focus,” reported Thiago Souza, Director of Fast Shipping.

It is worth noting that before the stoppage, the monthly average movement was over 100 thousand TEUs, equivalent to one million tons per month.

Currently, berths 1 and 2 are awaiting customs clearance from the Federal Revenue, which should be soon. Despite this, the movement has already started at Public Berths 3 and 4 (in partnership with SC Portos), and with this, the Port of Itajaí is already coming back to life with containers in its yard.

All set

Today, JBS already has a full team and prepared machinery for the start of operations. “We are already 98% structured to start operating,” reports Thiago Cabral, Business Development at JBS. With an online portal, JBS's priority was to create a functional platform that already has scheduling functions for loading,” adds Cristian Celestino, Business Development.

“One of our priorities was the online portal, which is already ready and focuses on 100% digital scheduling, but we still have documentary parts and billing via email, without the need to come to the counter,” and he concludes, “Our goal is to have all 3 stages fully digital by December, for both loading and pickup.”

Port Expansion Works should renew the region

In addition to all the waiting, currently the city of Itajaí is undergoing works for the expansion of the port area, possibly reaching an area of 300 thousand m² of port area in the future – The project aims to improve urban mobility and achieve the long-awaited separation of Port x City, significantly improving the flow of access to the Port. The project, worth R$72 million (including expropriations and investments), started in April 2024 and is expected to last around 18 months, according to the Itajaí City Hall.
